Anthropic’s Claude now has a QuickBooks connector. You can ask it to build a financial report — an AR rollforward, a cash flow analysis, whatever you need — and it pulls live data from your books to build it on the spot.
This one didn’t quite work. The connection errored out before the data loaded. But look at what it tried to build: a 13-week AR rollforward with new invoices, customer deposits, ending receivables, and a DSO read in weeks, all in a combo chart refreshed on demand. No one designed that report in a product roadmap. It was built in conversation, for one business, to answer one question.
That’s the shift. The report isn’t a fixed template anymore — it’s a response to a question. And the AI doesn’t just summarize your data; it connects to the source and builds the view you actually need. When this works reliably, the entire concept of “canned reports” becomes obsolete. Every question gets its own answer, built from your actual books, in real time.
We’re not there yet. But we’re close enough to see it.
